My New Outside Blog: A Rare Moment in the Snow

A Rare Moment in the Snow

Snow on the Nature Trail in McKinney, TexasOur area in McKinney, Texas experienced our first snowfall for the year.  Snow in our community is rare as we are located just a quick 30 minutes north of the city of Dallas.  We are far enough north in Texas that when the stars align we get a slight dusting of snow.  This week we received 5 inches in one day, a record for our town.  This is a view of one of the entry areas to a Nature Trail with gorgeous pathways through heavy tree areas.

Chestnut Chapel in McKinney, Texas

Chestnut Chapel is an old church that was moved to an area off the main square of McKinney known as Chestnut Square.  This quaint church is a wonderful venue for weddings and is also used for church services.  My daughter was married last August in this chapel which seats 150 guests.  Wooden pews to the church bell made this a wonderful memory for all.

Small Creek Area in the Eldorado Area of McKinneyThis is a view of the Eldorado area within the community of McKinney.  It is a master planned community with gorgeous hike & bike trails, small ponds, parks, and known for its beautiful trees and hilly terrain.  This particular photo was taken of a creek area that has a tree lined section that is located next to a golf course.  Occasional fishing takes place in this location and we have sightings of coyotes that have adopted the wooded areas for shelter after their natural home area was disrupted by the suburban growth.

With a population of over 125,000 residents and growing, you can see why Money Magazine named McKinney, Texas one of the Top 5 Cities in the Nation to live in 2010.

As for the snow, enjoy the moment.  Next week it might shoot up to the 60s again, that is what we call Texas weather.

I love seeing photos like this. When we had all this snow in Denver just this past weekend, I thought of taking some photos around here.  The only thing about McKinney, as I used to live in the North Texas area, is that snow = ice in many occasions.  Very beautiful photos although!

Nor - it was picture perfect wonderland indeed!

Clinton - we did have some ice and the schools closed for Monday (we Texans just can't drive in that stuff!)

Sheldon - it was great and I enjoy the snow much more that the 115 degree days we have seen here too.  It actually dumped over a foot about a year ago here which did make an all time record over a two day period.  Most years we see no snow.  Thanks for the quick stop off!

Thanks to all for taking time to visit my post!

Beautiful pics Connie and the chapel.. what a setting for a wedding! I am working from home today as we got 6 inches since yesterday and it is still falling. I am lucky I don't have to go out.

Barb - it was an ideal setting for my daughter.  The outside in the summer is filled with beautiful flowers around the chapel.  Very simple and perfect size.  They wanted an intimate wedding with a very select list so they would be able to visit with all and enjoy.  The church provided that vintage feeling that perfectly matched her gown and decor.  Great memorable moment.  Thanks for stopping by my post and commenting!

Such pretty pictures!  My sister in law posted a great quote, "The first fall of snow is not only an event, it is a magical event. You go to bed in one kind of world and wake up in another quite different, and if this is not enchantment then where is it to be found?" ~ J.B. Priestley

How true is that?!  Especially in TX?!

Stay warm, and happy selling!

Joshua ... the pictures do look like they were taken in black & white but it was just so gray outside this is how they truned out.  Thanks for the visit and comment.

Connie - so, so, so pretty Connie! I love the one of the chapel...there's just something about seeing the historic homes covered with snow this time of year that makes it so magical.

It’s so pretty, but it also is making me cold just by looking at it. Hot tub here I come. J
